Vélo Birmingham & Midlands 2020 CANCELLED

From the Vélo Birmingham & Midlands Route Team:
It is with a heavy heart that I write to announce the cancellation of Vélo Birmingham & Midlands 2020 that was due to take place on Sunday 21 June 2020.
HM Government are strongly advising against mass gatherings and non-essential travel and even if it is possible that the situation may have improved by June 21 (which seems far from certain), working restrictions and self-isolation recommendations mean that we are simply unable to complete the work necessary in the next few weeks to ensure that the event could proceed safely and with minimum support from and/or disruption to local emergency services, whose vital work is rightly focused on supporting public health needs through these exceptional circumstances.
Vélo apologise for any inconvenience caused, particularly to those that made specific arrangements around the event and associated road closures. You can find more information about the cancellation on our website at www.velobirmingham.com
To confirm, Vélo Birmingham & Midlands will not be taking place on Sunday 21 June and there will be no road closures associated with the event.
On behalf of the whole Vélo Team, we want to wish you well over the coming weeks and months.

‘Stand Together’ – Holocaust Memorial Day 27th January

A memorial service for Holocaust Memorial Day will be taking place at 11:00am on Monday 27 January at the Solihull Council’s Civic Suite.
The internationally recognised day remembers both the survivors and deceased during the genocides of the Second World War and in Cambodia, Bosnia, Rwanda and Darfur.
This event will also mark both the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp and the 25th anniversary of the genocide in Bosnia.
This year’s theme is ‘Stand Together’. This theme notes how regimes throughout history have split societies by marginalising minority groups. The theme of ‘standing together’ with others is therefore vital in supporting all groups in society and rejecting division and prejudice wherever it is found.
The event will last 45 minutes and be attended by the Mayor of Solihull, as well as representatives of Solihull’s Jewish community, Chief Superintendent Lee Wharmby and West Midlands Deputy Lieutenant Stephen Goldstein CBE.
Members of the public are free to attend the event. The event will also be streamed live on the Council’s webcasting service: https://solihull.public-i.tv/core/portal/webcast_interactive/467481
